Machine gun house

Kiama | 2020

This modern concrete and glass house on farmland is arranged longitudinally allowing all habitable rooms unencumbered views of the Pacific Ocean. Separation from service rooms is achieved via central circulation defined by an elevated form that splits the building vertically. Common living areas are in the centre of the home allowing the master suite to solely occupy one end. The main living area projects forward creating windbreaks to outdoor living spaces either side providing a protection in any conditions, responding to the exposed position of the home in its coastal landscape. The project nestles into the undulating hillside of the farm, dissolving into the landscape and gradually revealing itself upon approach. It gently aligns with the rolling coastline, forming a quiet, unassuming presence that emerges through proximity.
