Nestled towards the rear of the site, Twin Gums Studio is sheltered from its surroundings as it embeds itself behind a large gum. Appearing as a shadow from the canopy above, the studio acts as a secondary dwelling for the clients to comfortably accommodate a small family. As the initial phase of a larger project, the dwelling sits modestly in the landscape, complementing the proposed Twin Gums House currently under construction. The design fragments the permissible 36sqm limit of a studio into two pods linked by a breezeway. This additional alfresco space establishes increased user flexibility for other living areas, allowing inhabitants to deploy a wider range of activities. Offsetting the two volumes creates framed glimpses of the surrounding gum trees and adjacent beach, while retaining a strong visual relationship between them.
