ATRIUM DUAL OCCUPANCY

Rodd Point | 2023

The key driver behind these parallel dwellings was to conquer the significant challenge of achieving visual privacy without compromising access to natural light. The prominent location also mandated that basement parking be provided for multiple vehicles, therefore, a spacious lower ground floor including additional program was created. The design response features central atriums that puncture through two storeys and reveals themselves beyond the entry. These generate substantial light and ventilation to both ends of the living areas, in turn allowing reduced glazing to side walls. Skylights are maximised to enhance natural light above stair voids, bathrooms, living and alfresco areas. The generous street setback allows space for considerable landscaping that ensures visual privacy while enhancing street presence. This dual occupancy balances the often conflicting needs of the site and its inhabitants by maximising the efficiency of the project footprint without compromising privacy, natural light and the surrounding landscape.
